LIVE (kinda) Buckeye S/SS Series @ Columbus

Just got home from my first race I've been able to attend with the Buckeye Stock/Super Stock Series, this one held at National Trail Raceway outside of Columbus. A big thank you to Jeff Ross and family, Nitro Joe, Jim Layton and the Trails staff for making it all happen. It was a picture perfect day for racing, despite the weather prognosticators errant call for 50% chance of rain -- it came through in the overnight hours, leaving just a couple of puddles here and there. To get ahead of the game, the call was made to run the event 1/8th mile. Everything ran pretty smooth, and a good time was had by all. The air was between 800-1100' for the most part all day, with low humidity, although a low barometer as well, starting out at 29.08 and dipping slightly to 29.04 late in the day.
They had a Shootout for 16 qualified drivers (Jeff can tell you more about that program), which was won by Tom Losket's B/SA '69 Roadrunner when Rob Bihl broke in the final with Harlon Updike's P/SA '66 Bel Air. Semifinalists were Jeff Ross (F/SA 'Cuda) and Zac Ross (G/SA Volare) After the shootout, we got to have a regular race. I believe 30 entries at the gate, but I think there were three cars that withdrew from breakage or whatnot. Jake Magee, driving his G/CM Malibu, put an exclamation point on the evening with a .004 light in the finals to trailer Michael "But I don't feeeeel tardy" Beard's GT/HA Volare. Zac Ross and Rob Holmes (J/SA '77 Firebird) were the semi-finalists. Five round race, $1,000 to win, $300 R/U (plus JEGS Gift Certificates!) plus round money starting 2nd round winner? Cool deal. Thanks again to all who make it happen. The following videos are for analytical purposes only. Please do not enjoy them for sheer entertainment value. Semi-Finals of the Shootout... Lasket over Jeff Ross Bihl over Zac Ross Photos: - Al Ross - In-car, looking back in the lanes at Ken Whitcher - Kevin Skinner... - ...took a wild ride. The Cobra Jet went left right off the launch, wheels high in the air. He rode it out until it reached the centerline. Took out the 330' cone. Luckily, they were able to make it back for the rest of the day (after toning it down!) - just waiting for the new 330' block to be put in place...
