77 Nova 6 with stick

well I tried and gave up on the fairmont the clean cars are going for 9 k and higher . The 3k cars are rusted to the door handles and 8 hrs away ! And most have been crashed . I found a 77 nova 65k miles 3,speed on the column radio delete standard brakes without p/s . 6 cyl with the intricated cyl head . Has anyone tried to run one of those cyl heads or it it just a waste of time ? It fits well with a 305 2 bbl . And of course a 350 . The 350 has been done 10 million times and more there's nothing to find there so it's out. Any suggestions .

I remember back around '75 or so, some local guys built a straight six Chevelle with a Glide. I think it was either a '66 or '67. They were still running off national records at our track, I think. Anyhow, somebody running that same combo, bombed the record at some big race. So after that, the local Chevelle lost its advantage. So they quit racing it shortly.

It may have been a HP hit, instead of the lower record, that made the Chevelle uncompetitive. Who knows exactly when NHRA switched from records to the index system ?

I've read that it was started in 1975. But I don't know if that included the entire year or if it was switched over sometime during the season.

Was that Eugene Chaisson? '68 Chevelle wagon 230-140hp. Runner up to Bob Shaw's Corvair at the Sportsnationals.

If you are looking at the 1975 Nova, over looked possibility is the 262 v8 2 barrel. Same engine that came in the 175/76 Monza.

75 had the small carb.
76 had the bigger one, but no 262 in Novas.
I'd go with the 305 in T/Stick !

No, this car was not a wagon. I don't think they raced it at any national events--maybe a division 4 race or two-don't know.

The only other thing I remember about it was that it had big A-1 Trans decals on it. So I assume they were running an A-1 converter. I think they were #1 at the time.

So that brings up another question. What are the top brands of converters that most Stockers run today ? :)
