Trailer Tires OR Light Truck?

Need new tires for my 22 foot enclosed trailer, what are the differences and or benefits to using either the trailer tires or light truck tires?
225/75r15’s at 60psi is what I had been using but one bubbled the other split. About 6 years old.
Thanks
Rich

I have been using and having good luck with Maxis load range E on our three axle 32 footer. But just found out yesterday that Hercules is offering a load range F very soon. The load range is carrys more air and should be a better tire for the way we use them.

Trailer tires are going to fail you by the time they are 5 years old.

Switching to 16" wheels and LT tires is what many people do for better reliability.

Goodyear came out with an E rated 15" tire last year and they are called Endurance and made in the USA

I had Goodyear Marathons and they started to come apart but were probably 5 +years old.

I have never had a trailer tire that didn't dry rot crack or come apart if it was that old.

Going to 16" wheels aggravates loading a lower car or a dragster....and that's what I have....

I put a set of those Goodyear Endurance tires on last year and they are a good looking tire.....80lbs air...

I was heading home from Atco yesterday on the NJTP 70-75mph just staying with traffic.....

Most of the 15" trailer tires are made overseas. Their ratings are very dubious. A 15" tire with a 10 ply rating is a better method of judging a tire.

My boy is one of largest Trailer Dealers in Nevada. He suggests a 16 Inch tire = if it will fit.
He sells a lot of 235/85/16 E tires and rims for retro fit (About a $160.00 deal for racers at races).
If you order a new trailer = spec it for 16 tires so they put a fender on it that has adequate clearance
(Some Manufactures use fenders with minimal clearance). The G rated tires are readily available in 16
235/85 size and that is what we run on everything...... another 20 to 25 a tire but worth it to me out here in
the Desert.

We use Race Ramps or put the Dually truck on Rhino Ramps ( Not our Bus ) if needed but the height difference
is not that much.

When you buy a trailer.......Look for Dexter Axles!
The Chinese axles are.......Cr*p!

Never run a Trailer Tire OVER 5 years or you are risking you life IMO!

We never run our personal trailers over 2 to 3 years.......Saves a lot of problems
Generally the tires are date coded....I have seen some Dealers with a 2 or even 3 years old tires on new trailers!

The tire Rich mentioned , the Goodyear Endurance , is the best choice available anymore for 15" tires .
Price is pretty reasonable too.
No mater what tire you put on be sure to replace the rubber stems with truck style bolt in all metal stems . ....old trailer tires do fail, but many fairly new trailer tires fail due to pressure loss caused by rubber snap in stems.

Daughter and son in law just bought 4 of the new usa made goodyear 15" tires and wheels. I just looked at them today, they look great, we will see what time shows, but seems they are getting good reviews so far. They got the best deal from discount tire.

That is probably your best choice in the 15" diameter

Trailer tires have stiffer sidewalls. I have 16's on my 28' trailer and it had LT radials on it when I bought it, I put ST trailer tires on and it tows with less sway. But as stated until GY came out with the new tire everything else is Chinese.
My trailer hasn't been used this year yet so I didn't ck the air in the tires so if anything they were a little low. The other day the spare that is mounted on the front and always covered exploded. It's a Hi-Run made in China tire that is probably over 5 years old.

Rich Biebel is correct .It's not the miles ..It's the years.
Trailers, RV's 5-6 years. After that, trouble...Unless you can store in a climate controlled atmosphere. Never had that luxury

Re: Trsiler Tiers OR Light Truck?

I have a 2010 24' enclosed that came with 235/80/16 Goodyear Marathon tires that I plan to replace shortly due to age. The tires are covered in the summer when it sits outside and it is stored inside on concrete on plywood.

They look new, but I do not want to take the chance of blowing one and tearing up the wheel well.

I plan to go with the new Goodyear Endurance ST tires because of USA made and the reviews on the tires.
