Power coating headers?
Would powder coating be an acceptable header coating? Never really heard of it being done, but would the exhaust gas temperature be beyond its thermal limits? Got a pretty nice local sandblast and powder coating shop not far from here. I thought I would ask first.

Re: Power coating headers?
I believe powder coating is only good for approx 300 - 400 degrees. It would probably cook off.

Re: Power coating headers?
Powder will not work, you need a liquid ceramic. Many powder guys do this as some of the powder manufacturers also sell ceramics. Check with your local powder guy.

Re: Power coating headers?
Coating headers inside and out with a ceramic treatment works really well. Headers can be purchased already coated, but I have chosen to have it done by a specialty shop.
No reason a powder coating shop can't do it. The finished product is more durable, dissipates heat better and reduces sound. Surprised how well the finished product has worked. |
