Horsepower Expectations for SS/CS Engine?

Throwing around the idea of building a SS/CS engine and was wondering if I could get some input on what current engines are making for power in the 310-330ci range. Is anyone willing to share some power numbers?

Tough class to build into. I know because I'm still trying. Iron heads with inline valves only and max of 366 factory cid. 10.5 lbs per cid. One 750 cfm 4 bbl. Approved heads are available from Dart for Chevy and Marcarty or DCI Motorsports for Pontiac. Us Ford racers are limited to factory N351 heads made for circle track racing. A 351 N head Ford can make 500 to 600 hp in circle track trim. If you ran a Mopar in CS it would have to be an inline wedge with factory heads. No hemis allowed in CS.

The CS record is 9.39 at 140.91 with a '98 Pontiac. If that's a 3200 lb car, the Wallace Racing calculator says it takes 600 to 700 hp to make that speed and ET.

My friend Ashton Hudson has the fastest CS out there before he went to comp. way faster than the record. I can ask him about how many ponies he was making.

Dale Ashton went 2 tenths faster than that record with his Ford Escort.

For what its worth my CS legal 320" chevy with iron bow tie heads made 630 on Pattersons dyno in 1991. Best run was 9.77 at 135 with a powerglide.
I have no idea what a good one makes today. 700?

I think Ashton had probably one of the fastest CS cars in the classes history, that thing was fast as can be. We quit CS in about 2012 and jumped into AS, but our best 304" motors made between 690-710 on a Superflow dyno. The best run we ever made with it was in Belle Rose at the Sportsnationals in 2009, ran 9.22 @ 143. That was all with the Chevy Bowtie Vortec head castings.

We sure had a lot of fun competing with Marlin and David Bogner in our CS days, that Mopar was really fast and kept us working on our stuff!
