Fire Extinguisher Inquiry
A question for those who carry a fire extinguisher in your tow vehicle and/or your enclosed race car trailer, what type-size-quantity do you recommend and why? I've always carried in both but just not sure if I'm equipped with the right thing.
I appreciate all who can offer some educated advice. |
Re: Fire Extinguisher Inquiry
I have an 8 lb. Kidde for type A B C fires . One in the Motorhome and one in the trailer . This type of extinguisher covers trash , liquids , and electrical fires . I was in our local fire department , and learned about what types of fires you need to be able to cover and how to use the extinguisher .

Re: Fire Extinguisher Inquiry
The other important topic would be life of a fire extinguisher. Just because the gauge shows it is green does not take into account if the dry chemical is compacted. Fire extinguishers are cheap, after your rig is bouncing down the road for a few years it is a good practice to replace them. Also put a date on them when you installed it.

Re: Fire Extinguisher Inquiry
Honestly I'd have to look at them to tell you the size, most are ABC. I have one in my truck that's dry powder and an old Halon. I have 2 in my trailer on the walls near each door. I also have one in the storage compartment of my scooter and one in the car.
One thing is to take and shake the dry powder extinguishers so the powder doesn't get compacted. |
Re: Fire Extinguisher Inquiry
I had a guy who works at a refill shop that yes good idea every so often to turn extinguisher upside down in your hand and give few taps on the end / sides with rubber / or plastic hammer to get the chemical unstuck to the insides of the can so it will then flow smoothly in when you have to pull the trigger in a fire

Re: Fire Extinguisher Inquiry
Bill I do not want to hijack your post but I saw another CR post that discussed a "fire extinguisher ball". They can be mounted right to the ceiling of a trailer and since they go off automatically it is almost like a "mini fire system" for your trailer. I plan on buying one for my trailer. Many different brands and sizes
