Re: LT1 Ignition problem
Try a different opti would me my suggestion. My first MSD opti was installed on my new bracket engine before I went to Tulsa for Ed to tune my car last december. He got it tuned ok but it had a slight high rpm miss that just got worse the first race of the year. It ended up being the optical sensor was bad right out of the box. While it was out to MSD I bought another one so I could continue the racing season and it ran fine untill the rotor button gernaded after about 30 passes. Put the first one back in and the bearing had too much play in it and the rotor rubbed into the cap ruining both the cap and rotor. I now have the second back in the car and ran it the rest of the season and it seems to be doing fine with over 150 passes on it. I am still keeping the other one in the trailer in case it lets go again. MSD has fixed them under warranty everytime so far but I dont know what will happen next time because their warranty is only for 1 year and it is up on one and will be up on the other in april. One thing you might want to check is how long the drive pin is on your cam. I helped a couple of kids here locally get their cars squared away after they installed aftermaket cams and on both of them the drive pin was too long. It ended up pushing too far into the slot in the opti and caused problems for both. MSD fixed thier optis as well even though it was their screw up for not checking to make sure the pin length was right. I cant remember if they had Crane or Comp cam but it was one of them. Like most people I thought I was helping myself and preventing future problems by going to the MSD opti and did not find out untill after my problems were over that they were having problems with them.
