Re: Which electric shifter to buy? (3-speed B&M Ratchet)
I run a TH400 w/ reverse pattern, behind 468 BBC and purchased the B&M pro ratchet shifter and the Shifnoid complete setup brand new for $489. plus tax in April 2009. I have had nothing but problems with it. It never makes the 2-3 shift, except for the first run of the day. I replaced the rpm module they sent with an MSD piece still no better. We rewired it still no good. I purchased an MSD RF filter hoping that was the issue, still not working. My car runs an East Coast alternator and currently has 4.10 gears,an ATI conveter which stalls @ approx 3800-4000 rpm, and the tires are 29.5 " tall. This year we set up a push button switch on the steering wheel that I am using to shift gears manually, while keeping both hands on the wheel as our local track is far from optimum for my 10.5w tires and BB torque. I have really been dissapointed in this Shifnoid set up and when converted into Cdn dollars w/ shipping etc I spent $647, for it before replacing the RPM switch and adding an MSD filter. Now I am wondering if it is my combination of converter/rpm range/tire size/shift points that is stopping it from making the 2-3 shift. All my friends run power glides and have no issues at all, with their Shifnoid stuff. I don't think my converter is slipping too badly as I run 110 mph @ the 1/8 mile,ET of 6.42 seconds.
