If you bracket race the same car like I do, you don't want to have two sets of delay box numbers, so you should set the first timer to allow the car to clear the starting line before the stop affects it. Use your vehicle reaction time as the minimum setting. For example, on a .500 tree I run (say) 1.060 in the box, meaning it takes 1.500 (top amber to green) less 1.060 = .440 total reaction time for my thumb plus the car. Take away another .180 for human reaction time (verified by hitting a practice tree with no delay or rollout), and you get .260. So I run .270 as my first timer setting. If I use less, I have no guarantee the car is not reacting differently.
