You're right: "If your falling down drunk in the staging lanes or stoned and they see it". My point is that if you're doing this at home, it's none of their business (same as it's not your job's business what you do at home - as long as you're not impaired when you come to work).
NHRA can't be expected to put a "high morals" clause in their rulebook to demand that everyone who holds an NHRA membership card does absolutely nothing to tarnish the NHRA image. They would have no way to police this (other than the few times something makes the newspaper and mentions the person being an NHRA racer).
Now back to my original point: NHRA could state that "anyone convicted of a felony is suspended", but I don't think they can just say that "the only crime worth suspending someone over is possession of child pornography". It's too broad.
