Robbie,
The motor plate install is a common method. It is not part of the timing cover, it is cut out around the timing cover and does not interfere with it.
It uses a set of water pump gaskets on each side of the plate, no problems at all. Many drag race cars and most all dragsters will have such a setup.
I like it in the case of a factory frame build up because it adds the effect of another crossmember. The front plate combined with a rear plate add overall stiffness to the front section. Also, I have not posted the photos yet, there is a "travel limit strut" on each side of the engine. Keep watching and you will see those soon.
Because the Super 10 uses fender well exit headers engine mounts do not matter in ref to header clearance. However, with under car headers that hug the engine block using a front and rear plate and eliminating the side mounts can help header fit.
Thanks for watching and please stay tuned
