Re: Southeast Gassers
And a follow up..
Northeast Speed was owned, silent partner, by Bill Rubin.
The Rubin Glass Company was $$$$$$$$$$$ in Albany, NY.
They had one of a handful of lightweight Mopar hemis made
when they first came out, for special drag racing... 1965???
Jack had the engine apart and the guys bet me that I couldn't
pick the head up overhead. I grabbed the head with a 100 pound
snatch and nearly put it through the ceiling! Weighed nothing!
Everybody got a good laugh on me, the 'college' kid.
I used to ride a bike over there 'cause I didn't have a driver's
license until I was 21. I DID run trains, 10,000 tons and 3 engines,
starting when I was 14, though. My best friend, Billy, on the left in
my avitar, was from a railroad family... we rode trains everywhere.
