Ya'll excuse me for pulling up an old thread. But I'm not the 1st to do something like that, am I ?
This thread popped up yesterday, while I was searching for info on Jack's SS Bird. Somebody asked for pics, but none were posted. I have some, which I probably posted on one of my Pontiac threads. But I'll post 'em here, so that when someone else views this thread, they'll be able to see pics of the car in question.
I 1st saw Jacks SS Bird at the Cajun Nats, in 1978. At that time, I didn't know who it belonged to. It was just a white T/A, with a For Sale sign on it.
Jack sold it to Glen Tinsley, who did quite well with it.
In the 5th pic, the '74 Bird belonged to Glen & the '73 belonged to John Clegg. If I have the story correct, the '74 was the original H-O Racing Specialties SS/KA record Holder. John had bought the '73 new.
Glen sold the '74 to John. J.B. Clegg raced it with an auto trans for a few years. Then they upgraded it & changed over to a stick. J.B. got it well down into the mid 9's. Then they upgraded John's original '73, also as a stick car. J.B. has also got it down into the mid 9's.
As far as I know, those 2 Birds are the quickest regular Super Stock class Pontiac powered cars, ever. Next quickest is probably John Angeles' '69 Bird, with daughter Keri driving. I know it has run some 9.80's.
