Re: S/ST-S/G Alfa Romeo Spider Roadster
Summary from the first outing
We were really unsure of the true weight, I had tried a truck scale and it came up to 2900#s even. I really couldn’t believe that. I built it heavy but gezzz, so Friday morning I went to the scale and they said it wasn’t quite right (water issues). Said i could get a close estimate so I drove on and They said it was flopping from 25-2600#s. Now I felt a little better but still not sure as how much weight to put in. My friend Richard preiser had brought his scales for his stocker and asked if I wanted to use them. Well surprise it was 2912 Oh my! 51% front corner weights were real close so no adjustments were made to the suspension. Car goes dead straight and with the windshield i don’t feel any difference from the other car except the visibility and fun factor!
We made it to the quarter finals loosing by .003.
I do have a list of things to change, re-arrange or flat out fix, but without having to turn a single bar or shock adjustment I was very happy.
So now the plan is to put the aluminum motor from the Porsche in and swap this back, that will bring the weight down to the minimum and settle the Porsche down a bit too. This car did go 10.88@153 with the steel engine so it should be fine at 158 or so.
I have 2 weeks to get these swapped and all fixed up.
I really had a blast and have to thank Scott Sapp (shaggy) my friend and crew for all his help. It was funny how we all fall into a routine and with the new car it seems every thing was totally different.
