Re: CCRA Rockingham May 25-26
Rockingham Dragway Race #5 & #6 Results:
This past weekend, we visited the new & improved Rockingham Dragway for their annual Big John Memorial Race weekend. With over 400 cars on the property, Saturday made for an extra long day but the Rockingham Dragway owners & staff put in all the necessary work & was able to pull off a successful day of racing. We would like to say THANK YOU to Dan VanHorn, Al Gennarelli, Jim Howard, & the entire staff at The Rock for the awesome track conditions over the weekend with the extremely hot weather conditions & the obstacles that they were thrown on Friday morning upon arriving at the track.
We started the day off with our normal time run, then followed that with the Warren Engines Dash for Cash. Corey Taylor attending his first CCRA event of 2024 with a new engine combination missed the first run due to switching out torque converters came back & collected $100.00 for his 6.1801 at 108.30 mph on his 6.18 dial. I'd say he's got it dialed in already. 39 cars made the 1st round call after having 2 drivers suffer damages during the Dash. The Victory Lane Golf Carts 1st Round Best Losing Package went to Scotty Galyean. He had a .0211 RT, ran a 6.9673 at 96.22 mph on his 6.95 dial. The Ford's Fuel and Propane/ Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants 2nd Round Best Losing Package went to Corey Taylor for a tough loss. He was dialed a 6.16, had a .0502 RT & ran 6.1688 at 104.90 mph. He picked up a pail of Renegade Race Fuels & Lubricants PRO 112+ racing fuel. Kevin Riner was the lone semifinalist. He lost a close race against Tanner Hiatt. I think Tanner was just paying him back from KDS Motorsports. Saturday's finals found Terry Taylor, which is no stranger to a final round appearance & first time final round appearance in only his 4th ever race, Tanner Hiatt. Terry had the advantage at the tree with his .0133 RT to Tanner's .0658 RT & carried that straight to a victory. Terry was dialed a 6.87 & ran a 6.8852 at 93.46 mph while Tanner broke out running 6.7558 at 102.55 mph on his 6.76 dial. Once again, THANKS to GBM Land & Construction, we were able to pay 1st Place $2000.00. Terry also received a $100.00 gift certificate to Altronics Inc, a can of FOGGIT, a certificate for a set of E3 Ignition spark plugs, $100.00 gift certificate to Crew Chief Pro Software, $100.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, $100.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, & a 5 gallon pail of Fuel Factory F8 racing fuel for his win. Tanner received a $50.00 gift certificate to Portatree Timing Systems, a certificate from E3 Ignition for a set of spark plugs, $50.00 gift certificate to COMP Cams, $50.00 gift certificate to Edelbrock Performance, & a 5 gallon pail of F12 racing fuel from Fuel Factory. The Dunn Logging Company sponsored Paul Bunyan "Best Reaction Time" award went to Phil HIlling for his .005 RT during round #2 of eliminations. The McLawhorn Racing Hard Luck Award went to Tim Sloan after his 2nd round win, he was pulling back into his pit area & broke a camshaft in his engine. Tanner Hiatt won the Wayside Landscapes & Supply Bounty Hunter award in Round #1 for taking out the ROXBORO MOTORSPORTS DRAGWAY Sunday race winner, Mr. Charlie Wisecarver. Robbie Draughon was awarded The Wisecarver Brothers Racing sponsored Sportsmanship Award for working on, sorting out the bugs, & driving Brodie McKee's (Son of Day Dreamer II) Chevy Camaro getting it ready for Brodie to get behind the wheel at the upcoming Clemmons Concrete Stick Shift Nationals at Farmington Dragway in June. Joseph Strickland won the Performance Sealing and Striping Best Winning Package for his round #2 win. He had a .0079 RT, ran a 7.5124 at 87.92 mph on his 7.51 dial. The Gutters by Design "Mind in the Gutter/Worst RT" went to Jake Melton for his .2003 RT in round #1 & still got the round win. Thank you to all of our racers & crew members for staying up LATE with us to complete the Saturday portion of the race in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
