Carolina Classic Modified Production presented by Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales/ Racing Performance Motorcoaches rolled into Farmington Dragway for the 2nd time this past Saturday. It was a nice 79* & cloudy, overcast day. Qualifying was a bit different at this race as we had to complete our 06/28/25 event as well as qualify for this race. We had 7 cars on property with 6 of those qualifying for the race. Darrion Houston EM started out the day taking his competition break bye run for the 06/28 race running a 6.0529 at 114.16 mph (-0.4471) followed by Brad Smith BM taking his laddered bye run running a 5.5193 at 126.44 mph (-0.4907). Our first pair was Ronnie Yopp DM running a 6.4985 at 82.37 mph (0.1485) & Robbie Draughon AM running a 6.6570 at 110.95 mph (0.757). The final pair for Q1 was Steve Johnson CM running a 5.5067 at 126.12 mph (-0.6933) & Jake Melton BM running a 6.2183 at 112.75 mph (0.2083).

Qualifying #2 was also a finals for the 06/28/25 race. Brad Smith had lane choice over Darrion Houston. Neither driver impoved from their Q1 session. 2nd pairing for Q2 was Draughon improving to run a 5.1900 at 133.85 mph (-0.71) & Yopp also improving running a 5.7598 at 123.12 mph (-0.5902). Johnson & Melton was the final pair & both of them slowed from their Q1 efforts. With 2 rounds of qualifying in the books, the ladder is now set with CCMP having a new Liberty's Gears Top Qualifier winner for the 2025 season, Robbie Draughon. The ladder is as follows: Draughon AM with lane choice over Smith BM with the winner receiving a bye run to the finals, Johnson CM with lane choice over Houston EM, & Yopp DM with lane choice over Melton BM.

Now it's time to get down to business since qualifying is over. Our first pair out in R1 is Yopp DM taking the win over Melton BM. Yopp didn't improve from his Q2 running a 5.7884 at 122.72 mph (-0.5616). Next up is Draughon AM taking the win over Smith BM. Draughon ran a 5.1975 at 132.74 mph (-0.7025) & Smith improving running a 5.4997 at 126.62 mph (-0.5103). Final pair was Johnson CM making his fastest run of the day taking out Houston EM also making his fastest run of the day. Steve ran a 5.4698 (-0.7302) & Darrion ran a 6.0193 (-0.4807).

R2 brings Johnson with lane choice over Yopp. Yopp lit the red bulb -.0927 & running a 5.8098 at 121.00 mph (-0.5402). Johnson slowed just a small amount from R1 running a 5.4808 (-0.7192). Draughon just took the tree, giving up lane choice & backed up to prepare his hot rod for the finals & this should be a good one.

This will be Steve's 3rd finals & Robbie's 1st finals for the 2025 season. Draughon AM with a 5.90 index & Johnson CM with a 6.20 index stage up & Steve turns on the red light by just -.0030 giving Robbie his 1st win of the 2025 year. One year ago at this same race was Robbie's first CCMP win after rebuilding his car from a wreck at Farmington Dragway in June. Robbie went on to a run his 3rd 5.19 of the race (5.1974) at 133.29 mph (-0.7026) & Steve ran a 5.4797 at 125.73 mph (-0.7203).
