It's mostly all marketing. Having more than 1 point for the spark to jump is in my opinion not needed, the spark will always take the easiest path, possibly if the edges start to get rounded on one electrode strap it would merely go to the next sharpest edge (easiest path). There is I believe something to be gained in the newer high tech materials they use in the plugs but that's about it. I do agree with Ed, I've removed more of the so called hi performance plugs at work for drivebilty issues than any stock plugs, however as far as autolite...well let's just say this spring had me switching to NGK's.
