Dan, the best results we had were with the Pinion Depth slightly deeper than recommended, into the ring gear, then making sure the backlash was set a the tightest spot you can find rotating the ring gear. "IF" then the backlash seemed too lose the rest of the rotation, we didn't worry about it. The only time we got into trouble was with the set up being too tight. My guess is the Cryo'd and Rem'd gear sets don't "wear in". For lube we always ran 75/90 synth. keeping in mind that we always ran max capacity. None of that 1/2 to 1 quart B.S. Your ring and Pinion is a very high load area in your race car that requires lube at all times. Not saying this is right, but it worked for me ... hope it helps.
