I understand it is not your original question, my thought, sure would make a good GT or Crate Motor project.
To answer your original question, to my knowledge a 57 is acceptable in stock with any of the original factory engine combinations. [as posted above] Also, how cool with it be to run the 283 with 2 carbs. [a 283 - 283 horse was available in 57 with four speed. it used a low profile 2 x 4 intake]

Larry...the 283/283hp engine was with Rochester Fuel Injection and Duntov 097 cam....
There were 2-2x4 carb combos...270hp with the above mentioned 097 cam...and 245hp with a regular hydraulic cam...Cylinder heads and cc's may differ as well so one should check the latest NHRA engine specs to see what's permitted.... Was the 250hp FI engine (with regular hyd cam) available in '57 or did it come later? |

The 283 4bbl can use the 459 327/250 intake now, plus a 3 speed trans..Not a bad P/SA
car. The 283 / 245 2x4 deal would be more expensive to build. It would probably be somewhat faster , but I doubt it would cover the half second index loss.
