Default Concern for driver safety

During the recently completed Div 1 Open at Numidia, an incident occured that raises the question just how concerned tracks are about driver safety. With recent events you would hope that all precautions would be taken to minimize the chance for injury to a driver. During the second round of S/C, two paris ahead of us a plastic bag was blown out onto the track, about half track in the left lane. I approached the starter and asked him about the bag and he indicated they saw it and someone was going to get it. I questioned if he was going to stop the racing until it was picked up and he said no and continued to run cars down the track. We were in the left lane. Nick was told to do his burn out and stage. We won the round but in hind sight we should have shut the car off and refused to run. How much time, effort, and money would have been lost if the starter simply stopped the racing and had someone go down on a scooter and pick it up? I guess more than the concern for driver safety!
