PSA for racers staying in motels.
First off we had a fun filled weekend and thieves can't steal my sunshine. As some of you may know that are my Facebook friends my truck was broken into last night while staying at the Great Wolf Lodge in Concord for the 4wides. We don't normally stay into hotels but we do stay here every Charlotte race for my kids.
I know many of you do stay in hotels for racing and work as well. I learned a few things this morning from the police officers that I had no clue about. First off these guys target trucks like ours the ones we tow with. They know the majority carry weapons and that's all they're after and cash ofcourse. We had electronics scattered all across the back seat they didn't touch. Since most of us drive bigger trucks we tend to park away from the building and guess what, the vast majority of these places don't have surveillance cameras away from the building. They always bust out a back window because here's the one I didn't have a clue about, the back window will not set off an alarm on your vehicle in 95 percent of vehicles! I absolutely had no clue about that one. Anyway I wanted to share this with you all in hopes that someone can better protect themselves. It's not always possible but hopefully you can get closer parking.

There are no factory alarms that I know of that will go off when no door is opened. Thieves usually break a window and reach in or climb into you car, get what they want and then climb back out NEVER opening a door. Auto glass guy for over 40 years,,,,,, and say high to Richie DeCola for me

Don't leave firearms (or any valuables for that matter) in your vehicle.
1. They get stolen. 2. They are of no use to you if they are in your vehicle and you aren't, and you find yourself in a bad situation. Just sayin' 'cause it's getting crazy out there. |
