S10 Footbrake Build
I have a few questions about building s10 to bracket race in the foot brake class. I'm looking to run somewhere around 7.70s. Budget around $3500. I'm trying to enter the points next year at Fayetteville.
1. Will a 7.5 rear end hold up w/ mini spool and 4.56 gears? 2. Do I need to slide the springs over on the rear end or will a 8 inch tire be okay? 3. Should I go with a powerglide or th350? 4. Engine? 5.3 with a carb and cam change or 350 sbc with a little work? As of now the s10 has the stock 2.8 in it. Only thing that has been done is I lowered it 3 inches in the back and changed the wheels to some iroc camaro wheels. |

Re: S10 Footbrake Build
I think I used a 28×12.5 et street which I think it's 9.7 or 10 wide without moving anything. I also used the stock rear with the gears welded and ran a best of 11.19 with those tires and rear with a 6.0 ls engine.

Re: S10 Footbrake Build
Kent how long did the rear end hold up w/ the 6.0? Did the 6.0 have any work done to it?
I was thinking a 6.0 with a cam would be good for 7.50-7.70. Don't want to put a cage in yet. |

Re: S10 Footbrake Build
With slicks the 7.5 rear will break, and it's not worth putting a penny into it. An 8.8Ford is a good choice and will stand anything you throw at it, but you will still have a C clip type axle and need C clip eliminators.
Turbo 350's are very available and need little money or mods to be good for what you're doing. I'd put a Transgo full manual kit in it and a hardened race for the intermediate sprag and you're good to go. |
