Anyone think Fox will cover any sportsman coverage

From what I read in ND today, no. Seems like it will still be all Pro and Nitro. T Ped taking over for MD is a step down, in my opinion.

On a side note, several of the regular columnists from ND are signing off, too.

NHRA is still trying to ape NASCAR in terms of coverage. They will have a studio pre race type show and bits to keep viewers up to date on drivers and such. If they want to go with live coverage of the final rounds they should fill the time with semi and final eliminations of Sportsman classes and replays of Sportsman class finals. Show people what the drags is about.

I thought nhra was going to handle all the production and filming ect. . and fox was just airing the shows for them? from the link above .

FOX Sports has also committed to heavily promoting all NHRA Mello Yello Series shows throughout its media platforms. NHRA will sell advertising and sponsorship packages and assume responsibility for the production of the shows in concert with FOX Sports, with the creation of an in-house television production group as well as handle all international distribution for the programs

The only plus I see is being able to find repeats on FS-2 but Comcast where I live doesn't carry it. Thank god the recording devises we have now. I can cut a three hour show down to about 20 minutes and. 1 hour Lucas race down to about 2 minutes. IMHO Tony is not a plus. I would rather have Warren Johnson in the house. No B.S. sucking sounds there.

The Sunday elimination shows will consistently be presented in three-hour programs and the Friday/Saturday qualifying shows will be two-hours of coverage. In addition, FS1 and FS2 will provide multiple re-airs for all of the events. FS1 also will provide coverage of select NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Sportsman Series events. In total, FOX national networks will feature more than 450 hours per year of NHRA programming.

I don't watch the Pro's when I'm at the track, not interested in watching them on TV.
For those here who do, I hope the coverage works out to your liking, if not what can you do.
As for sportsmen coverage, same thing, why wait till the end of the broadcast to see a few seconds of airtime, if I'm lucky enough to be at the track, I'm usually helping with my friends car anyway, if I get a chance I'll head to the stands to watch comp,superstock and stock.

Why don't we wait to see how this plays out before jumping to conclusions. From what I have read, they haven't even finalized the coverage plan.

I'm pretty sure that some people wouldn't be satisfied even if NHRA covered every round of stock and superstock eliminations. There's always something to complain about, especially when it comes to NHRA.

So many people gripe about the fees, yet don't seem to take into account that TV time costs a ton of money. There needs to be a return on investment, otherwise what's the point. It would be very difficult for the casual TV viewer to understand why we use handicap starts, race on an index, lose in a breakout, etc. Can you imagine the response when a TV commentators explains why a class car gets to the finish line first, only to lose the race? Can you image them explaining Comp Eliminator, or why the Super classes use throttle stops?

The truth of the matter is that regardless of how much we love class racing, most viewers want to see heads-up racing. You needn't look further than the stands, and see what happens when the pros finish and sportsman racing starts. You can't force people to like something that they are not interested in seeing.

For me, I would be happy to see all rounds of the Hemi Shootout, Factory Stock Shootout, Alcohol cars and Pro Mod compete during the Pro coverage. I don't think that NHRA can financially justify more than that, if they can even justify that. If you are going to give coverage to Stock and Superstock, you're going to have to give coverage of Comp and the Super classes. If you do that, the air time become financially unjustifiable and viewership is likely to suffer.

From my point of view, NHRA has already started to make moves in the right direction. They are talking to racers, listening to them and making positive changes. That did not seem to be the case when Compton was around. We should keep offering recommendations to make the racing, schedule and treatment better. There are a lot more important things to fix first than TV coverage.
