Until last year I thought Pennsylvania was the worst state to buy / have an engine built . And then I bought one this year in Kansas that made PA look like a piker ....................And yes , the Kansas engine was a POS and I'm back in PA at a different builder. And now i'm just sayin' .
Merry Christmas to all ! ! ! .

Yes. Badly. From a well-know engine builder in Alabama.
Broke a lifter on the dyno despite telling the guy beforehand to replace the used lifters. Never tore the engine apart after the lifter broke. Just replaced the lifters and re-ground the cam. The result. Piston skits mangled. $1100 rings ruined. Never fit the dome to the heads. 4 Pistons hitting the heads. Huge groove machined into the dome for no apparent reason and way deep valve reliefs killing compression. Camshaft way too big. One head badly discolored from heat. $2500 intake that's a joke. The list goes on. Price was almost double what was quoted. HP was way down from now obvious reasons. Never again. Choose a local guy with a history of quality work. Alternatively, have block, head and intake work done by quality guys who value their reputation, and assemble the engine yourself checking everything twice. |

Things like that happen in every line of work, whether the person does it intentionally or unintentionally due to being crook or just not knowing or by mistake is not always easy to tell then other times it is obvious which reason is why.
I have had very few things done for me by someone else,my car had some upholstery work done by someone else, what few things I had done some went well, some not so well. How a problem is handled by business tells the tale, not always is there a way to make both happy. Dishonest businesses, make it harder on honest ones because the customer is gun shy and cautious and should be and protect their selves. In construction industry that's why they have building codes, inspections,to protect the customers from sub standard work etc.,sure some stuff still slips through though. Mike Taylor 3601 |

I never have. Maybe I'm lucky but my builders have always treated me fairly and have done great work. That ,I think,I can also say for my sons..

One thing I've found is the good guys all know each other. Or at least know of each other. I've got a ton of friends in the business. For years I was in the transmission business. I really hate that business because of how many cutthroats, con artists, and rip offs there are in it. I'm glad to be out and not doing anything in that line but custom, restoration, and racing stuff.
