Installing a Ultra bell on my turbo 350 trans and kind of confused about the instructions.I plan on cutting the original bell off myself with a cut off wheel and die grinder, but it says in the instructions you must remove the front pump to do so.But why can you just trim it close, and finish up with the die grinder?Anyone installed one?

Yes, you can do it. I've done it with a sawzall in an emergency at track. The trick is to get a nice line to follow. Also, you have to mask off the input/stator support area to keep out alum. chips. It may be helpful to remove and replace pump bolts and mask off holes as you go. E

I drilled a series of small (.250") holes around the original bell housing from the inside, as close to the pump as I could get. Then, on the outside of the bell, I drew a line, connecting the holes for a cutting guide. The instructions give you a measurement from the mounting surface of the bell to your cut. Your guide line (holes) should be close to that measurement... I finished off my cut edge with a hand held belt sander, and some 80 grit..
I just masked off any openings in the trans and did my complete install with the trans together.. Last edited by rallye bob; 04-06-2014 at 10:18 AM. |
