If I were NHRA
I would start with Indy. That race would determine the Pro Seeding. Then I would go right into the Countdown.
Of course my phone did not ring and no one asked me. Sarge |

Re: If I were NHRA
Forget the countdown!!!!
The idea of starting with Indy is good (maybe Brainerd? first) and work their way to Pomona. Have about 6 or 7 races (10 at the most) and then call it done for this year. There is no perfect answer as all the racers look for a way to salvage this year. Fans at the track are the biggest problem with this year. How to keep everyone safe and still enjoy the sport that we all love. Anybody have other ideas on how to get this year done????

Re: If I were NHRA
How about adding 1 day to the national events and increasing the Sportsman classes to a minimum of 100 cars at each national event? Make it a first come, first served when the race opens for credentialing. Just do it for the remainder of the year.
Due to the cancellation of divisional races, many do not have the points to race at national events. This would give an opportunity to others that do not have the necessary points, to race at a national event. Since the fees to race at national events is higher than a divisional, it would be a way for NHRA to make up some of the losses from the races that did not take place. |

Re: If I were NHRA
I would make Indy a two weekend race with no quotas. Every sportsman that wanted to enter could. Starting this early you could get qualifying done on Sunday, start class etc Monday, wed elims down ti 128 car fields, the pro pits could be used for parking Sportsman. Sportsman still racing could be relocated to sportsman pits before pro parking. Any sportsman that lost early could be relocated to closest spectator parking area if they chose to stay for rest of event. I know somebody smarter than me could do a better job of making a time line and it would require the cooperation of ALL of the racers to make it work but you might have the biggest most profitable Indy ever. I think we all hope NHRA does well for the shortened season and next year can be more normal. Okay everybody tell me I’m crazy.

Re: If I were NHRA
X 2. Open all the National events up to everyone. Top 65 cars ( except 128 for Indy) qualify for eliminations. No HP penalties for 2020 unless you run 1.20 under.

Re: If I were NHRA
If I were NHRA I would make all remaining LDRS events double races. It will provide an immediate infusion of additional revenue. Qualifying Friday, race #1 eliminations Saturday and race #2 eliminations Sunday.

Re: If I were NHRA
I would open a Thursday TnT for Sportsman only before the National races and encourage full burnouts. Pacific stands to be a Season Opener at the end of July and the track may only be able to start racing the end of June or later. It looks like a max of 5 bracket race days to get rubber down before the Pro runs. Green tracks and nitro don't mix.

Re: If I were NHRA
To put fans in the stands ... so they could understand what they were watching in the sportsman classes. Kill the index racing and go “back to the future” when everyone ran off of class records. Your local racer could be a national record holder and the spectators would see all the cars racing for the finish line . Divisional had some pro class racers to help bring out the fans. Pros have to actually live in the division they claim. Fewer National events so the “ pros” can show up at divisionals and a few match race dates along the way.
Most importantly is to give the local racers a competitive identity. A reason for the spectators to show up .. again. Maybe. Remembering the 60’s/ 80’s And what made local racing popular. And quit following everything NASCAR does. They are so low it’s become tv virtual racing. 🤮 Why? |
