Since you gave up Freemont St., just stop by Bourbon St on the way home on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. They got more freaks and freeks in the first 4 blocks and if you really want the treatment wander down to the 800 and 900 blocks. Allright Hill, now you gotta push the throttle off the idle stop. Nice going. Cooter, you did well. You are officially in the Teuton, Morris, and Helms Bonus Plan. Speaking of Morris, our quiet team member, he had serious surgery last Thursday. Recovering well, but will be long. Keep John in your thoughts. John has been with me for 40 years.

You must be freaked out, Stephen. That is above and beyond. Only thing worse is a Gen II Hemi; you got both.

After being taken to the woodshed yesterday morning, round 5, I spent the rest of the day bonding with the new car. Kevin showed me a few things to try that might show us a few things on test day. Scott and Kevin came out and helped me finish up with this new computer car. They, Kevin and Scott, let me struggle with the car long enough to let me know that 14 strokes on the keypad won;t fix everything. It takes real work, knowledge and dedication to get the job done. Bottom line is we got beat in a heads-up run and went to work!
Having the good fortune of being a "sub" on a well oiled team was a real pleasure. The first thing I needed to do was to stay out of the way and find some way to contribute. My assigned responsibility was to have the air pressures set for all cars before we went up for our runs. In the evening time I took on myself to watch the tilt of the cans and refill promptly, as Jeff would say "Beer Boy". Maybe its a rite of passage of all potential want to be team members. The next day I got the battery chargers out and hooked up after I took all the car covers off and neatly folded and stored in the trailer. A word about the trailer, real nice! Driving the car. What could be simpler going from one pink car to another. I can tell first hand that Mother MoPar changed a few things over time. After being instructed in Houma and a refresher here in Vegas about the only thing I did ok was the water box burn out on the first run. Fuel check was a chore. I forgot about the rear fuel pump switch and after a time Scott came to the rescue. I felt like a real rube. Then I started to do better. A big thank you to Jeff , Kevin, and Scott in helping us have a almost successful race at Vegas. One more thing, a lot of the new car ( read '08 and up) folks were real quick to make sure I had ample servings of "Crow" to keep my frail body nourished! As they served their favorite dish each had a big old smile and a twinkle in their eye. I find it almost amazing that something that tastes as badly as crow can change drastically as the win lights appear in my lane!!!! Now it appears to have a sweet taste!! Larry |
