CCMP Race #5 at Darlington

CCMP presented by Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales/ Racing Performance Motorcoaches stops in at Darlington Dragway this Saturday, September 13th along with the NHRA Southeast Division 2 for race #5 of the 2025 season.

Gates will open on Saturday at 8 a.m. with eliminations beginning at 9 a.m. CCMP will follow behind Super Stock elimination rounds. We will be doing our normal 2 rounds of qualfying so we can award the Liberty's Gears Top Qualifier & then establish a ladder for this event. GBM Land & Construction out of Rock Hill, SC (Brodie McKee) is both the Saturday title & associate race sponsor so please be sure to tell him "Thank You" for putting back into the sport that we all love!!!

This is the 1st time for us running along with the NHRA Southeast Division 2 so we ask that our competitors are prompt when called to the lanes & respectful to all of the NHRA officials.

This past Saturday, September 13th, CCMP presented by Hickory Enclosed Trailer Sales/ Racing Performance Motorcoaches raced alongside NHRA Southeast Division 2 at Darlington Dragway. This was a 1st time for our association piggy-backing off of NHRA D2 but I think it was a big hit. There were tons of racers from other classes watching each round & there were actually "fans in the stands"!!

We only had 5 cars attend this event but the race went on without any glitches & our racers all did a phenomenal job. Following Q1, we had Steve Johnson CM at the top of the sheet running 5.4447 on his 6.20 index (-0.7553), followed by Robbie Draughon AM running 5.2010 at 132.51 mph (-0.699), Ronnie Yopp DM running 5.7459 at 120.61 mph (-0.6041), Brad Smith BM running 5.5237 at 125.94 mph (-0.4863), & Darrion Houston EM running 6.0197 at 110.67 mph (-0.4803). Houston EM & Smith BM were the only two racers that improved during Q2 & they flip-flopped final qualifying positions. After our 2 rounds of qualifying, the Liberty's Gears Top Qualifier award that went to Steve Johnson SS/CM for his Q1 efforts running a 5.4447 at 126.23 mph on his 6.20 index (-0.7553). The ladder is now set with Johnson having a laddered bye run for R1, Yopp DM having lane choice oer Smith BM, & Draughon AM having lane choice over Houston EM.

Ronnie & Brad start out elimination round 1 with Smith getting the automatic win as Yopp goes red at the hit. Smith goes on to run a 5.5293 at 124.69 (-0.4807). Darrion & Robbie are the 2nd pair out for E1. Draughon has the advantage at the tree & carries it on to a R1 victory. He ran a 5.1982 at 131.77 (-0.7018) to earn himself the 2nd round laddered bye run. Steve makes a full pass on his bye run clocking a 5.4668 at 125.80 mph (-0.7332) to set himself up with lane choice against Smith in R2.

Brad Smith BM has a huge advantage at the tree against Steve Johnson CM for R2 but Johnson drives around him at the big end running 5.4875 at 125.52 mph (-0.7125) to put himself in his 4th finals of the 2025 season. Robbie Draughon AM just takes the tree & backs out to prepare his car for the upcoming finals.

As mentioned above, this puts Johnson in his 4th finals & Draughon in his 2nd straight finals of the season. Steve will have lane choice over Robbie. This race is over at the tree when Johnson lights the red bulb by -.0190 handing the win over to Robbie. Robbie goes on to make a full pass running 5.2073 at 131.27 mph (-0.6927) with his .0286 RT collecting his 2nd win of the year. Steve backs off the pedal running 5.6602 at 102.90 mph (-0.4602).
