Hello to all from the new guy. I found this forum looking for pics of Bob Unkefer's rides. Not only is he one heckuva racer but a great model builder in our club in K.C....
Maybe someone here can help with my 1:1 racer. It is a 1970 Mustang that raced under the name Black Magic in Alabama and Georgia during 1973-74. Several people remember the car, it was a black fastback that was a 428 car. It may have raced with or without the Shaker scoop and several racers remember seeing it at Atlanta Speed Shop Dragway. I would sure like to hear from anyone who remembers the car, raced against it or has pics or knows who may have pics of it. I believe it was owned by a gentleman named Larry Wolfe who was known to race other Fords with the Black Magic name. I will be starting on the restoration soon and I want to restore it to what it may have looked like while it was raced. Thanks Bob for bringing that trophy to the meeting! -Jeff |

Been awhile since I have posted but have a little more info and timeframe.
I talked to Larry Wolfe's ex wife Martha Greer who gave the approx. date of 1972-73 as the last that Black magic may have been raced by Larry. I'm looking for any pictures from Winston County Dragway on the west side of Alabama or Green Valley Raceway near Gadsden. Probably did not race very long in this area because it was originally delivered to East Moline, Illinois and may have been street raced before making the trip to the southern area. Thanks... |

Jim Soucy ran a 69 Mustang fastback non GT 428 Cobrajet car in SS/I & SS/H {ram air}In Division 2 in that time frame out of Miami painted black with "Black Magic" on the rear quarters. Car was bought new and run 1 day on the street then had to go into the racecar protection program after a chase by North Miami's finest. He sold it to me & I sold it to Marty Snowball who raced it for a number of years without the name on. It was then sold again and thats the last I heard of it. Dont know if its the same car youre looking for or not

Interesting! I figure Black Magic is a popular name for race cars... probably in the top ten! That would not be the same car as mine is a 70, plus the lettering is on the doors. Thanks anyway and I would like any pics of stock or super stock Fords with Black Magic on them if anyone has any. There is a few pics in the photo gallery of my car and you can see the original paint and lettering on the door shot.

Yes, it's apparently a popular car name...
Nitro Joe's mom ran a black '58 Pontiac Stocker called "BLACK MAGIC," long before she was Nitro Joe's mom.... Her name was Mary Ann Foss at that time, and she was a whole lot more than a casual racer... Ended up driving some really serious hardware and making a great reputation for her prowess behind the wheel! I love '58 Pontiacs, so I was paying attention! ![]() Good luck with your search!!!

I know that this is an old thread, but I just joined this forum. My name is Bryce Hankins, and me and a partner, Mike Inman, originally raced this Mustang. We raced out of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, and I currently residents in the neighboring city of Hueytown, Alabama, best known as the home of Bobby and Donnie Allison, Red Farmer, and 5he rest of NASCAR's Alabama Gang. Mike originally bought the car from Ford Motor Crédit, I believe, as a repo. It has approximately 6000 miles and a blown engine. We procured another 428 and Mike drove the car on the street for a time. We eventually began drag racing the car, mostly at Holiday Beach Drag Strip in Woodstock, Alabama. The Beach was a 1000 Foot track in those days. It is now a 1/8 mile track. We ran this car mostly as a run-what -you-bung heads up car. We did occasionally run the car in class racing as either a SS/F or SS/G car It was an F class car with the shaker scoop, a G car without the scoop and with a flat hood. We eventually traded the car for a POS Henry J gasser to a man named Donnie Kaiser, from Tuscaloosa, Alabama. I lost track of the car after that. We had the Black Magic lettering applied by a man named Bob Hastien from Hueytown, who at that time also lettered most of the short track stock cars in 5 his area. I never knew Mr Wolfe.
