There were dealer built cars, Yenko, Gibb, etc, and possibly "Baldwin/Motion" cars, before 1969. In 69, the two 427 Camaro COPO cars fit SS/B and SS/C. Bill Howell and Vince Piggins wanted in SS/D. So the 69 Chevelle COPO 9562 was created for that purpose. The spring/summer 2008 Chevelle magazine from Super Chevy has a nice little short article on the COPO 9562 69 Chevelle L-72 427 cars, with a breakdown of the options, and even some information on the COPO cars Yenko bought and sold.
