Well if it's a heavy car (>2500#) with an automatic the stroker is the way to go.
The reason I question pump gas is unless you keep the cylinder head temp around 160-170 at launch you will be flirting with detonation past the 1000' mark and with open headers you can't hear it. And if you detonate it long enough you will break it. Is saving $$on fuel worth risking your motor?

Perhaps if it's available in your area, you could
consider E-85? It's cheap and will allow you to run 12:1 and run a little cooler. But there are some pitfalls with E-85 such as the expense of converting your carb and the need to test the fuel before you buy it as the percentages of gas to eithanol can vary.
But it's something you can consider.
