Thanks for the replies guys. The problem is, is that we've broke a lot of gears in the past as well as breaking the pinion in two. BUT I just realized these were all street gears. So maybe the 28 spline pro gear will hold up. Thanks for the offer on the gears but I'm at least a year from needing them. I'm just trying to think ahead. Joe, the application is a 3800# stocker that my dad used to race back in the 70's and 80's and I've been bracket racing it for the past 16-17 years. Its a 69 Fairlane Cobra 428CJ 4 speed car. I'm going to be putting it back as a stocker and I know that I'm going to be needing the 5.00 or 5.13 gear to make it go.

The only thing out there with a big pinion in that ratio is a ten inch gear Tom's gears makes. All the 1/8 mile promods run them. They come in 5.00 and 5.14 require a big bearing case and a spacer under the pinion support. Also mark williams makes a 32 spline gear alot of the pro stock guy run but requires more special parts to make work. Good luck. Forgot Tom's 10 inch gear is $1200.00 a set.

Thanks guys. I guess that pretty much answers my question. I guess a 28 spline pro gear will be it.
