Back in the early 70`s I owned a 65 Valiant Signet, with a 235HP 273 4 speed. A buddy sold me an Edelbrock D4B intake, and I remember having to oval out the mounting bolt holes to make the bolts go in. I think the angle of the intake bolts were different in 64 and 65, maybe somebody more familiar will chime in. As for hydraulic lifters , mine had solids, and I had thought that all 273s did, even the 2 barrels. I could be wrong.

The pre 1966 273 heads have 5/16 bolt holes for the intake. After 1966 they went to 3/8 like all other small block mopars. That is why you had to oblong the holes in the early manifold you were trying to use.

I've never worked on a 273, but I've seen several forum discussions that mention a different bolt angle as well on the earliest years. (64-65-(66?)) i.e: Edelbrock D4B = early, Edelbrock LD4B = later.

Don't have a block in the shop, Comp Cams asked me, I didn't know so I'm asking the forum...
All you others focus, this question is about oil supply to the lifter bores... nothing else

Well if you are wanting to run a hydraulic cam in a early 273 you could drill into the oil galley if the block does not already feed the lifters, Mopar sells a jig to do this for the R series blocks. Since you don't have the block in front of you it's hard to say though.
I would have assumed they all come machined to oil the lifters but since I've never taken one apart that's just a assumption,lol. I usually just steal the rockers and pushrod's off of them and send the rest to scrap.

Thanks, Phill... I am familiar with the R block and are you telling me it has the passage front to rear like on the opposite side that feeds the mains? and the lifter bores could be drilled to the passages to feed the lifters?
