It you want to work on it that is fine. Please understand, Michael Beard will produce the "decal". so if you are willing to give him the design to produce I am good with that.

Michael has already produced several logos for us and I want to continue with a great relationship.

Since you're already working with a commercial designer on this, why don't you take the idea into consideration along with the other contributions here and work with Michael on the design and production of the logo. He would be best suited to handle the legal implications of using the symbol anyway. I have training in design and photography, but they are hobbies for me.
