Cool Re: '66 Malibu N/SA

Doug Holder and I were first out. The wind down by the end was an 18 MPH headwind, we both got blown around a bit. Lots of racers had the same effect down there. There's probably nothing wrong with your car.Second pass at 2:30 or so was with a 5 mph tailwind, no funny stuff at the finish line. Your car is living proof that good race cars can be built at home with very satisfactory results. Great car!!

Well, darn... out first round.

I thought I had worked out how to get good lights with this car--obviously I was wrong, an .061 wasn't gonna help against his .008. But we had a blast and I'm very happy with the car overall.

Here are some pictures from todays first qualifying pass:

I tried several different point, but had trouble holding it on the line. Now I realize that red light was from it creeping up while I was staged, I didn't notice it at the time.

We had the creeping issue the first year with our car. We have four wheel discs so I wouldn't expect the problem. I finally called strange and they straightened me out. I was used to plumbing street rods with a pressure balance valve on the rear brakes. Turns out drag cars you put the valve on the front. That and doing a very good job of bleeding and no more creep.

Thanks, Bob, I really appreciate the input. And that meshes well with what I'm hearing from others.

Here's a couple more pictures. I think this one was Q4.

And here we are at our lunch stop on the way home, with our hard-working Ranger getting a brief rest.

I thought I was nuts, used to trailer my race car behind my 77 Monte.
