I have one of these cars and even though mine doesn't have them ( removed by a previous owner ) I'm pretty sure they have the little studs welded to the body ( same ones that hold the rear window moldings on ). The back side of those "gills" have two keyhole slots that are spring steel(?) That the little studs slip over and as you pull them down the studs go into the narrow part of the keyhole. It will take a couple of days but I will post pics of the back side of the "gills". I believe to remove them you push up in the bottom of the "Gill".

No need to remove the headliner. They fastened by a t-stud. PIA to take off.

Now I get the picture mr.4racer and Kirk....not sure how the piece can be tightened with that setup though....
