While cruising DRC for SS info, I usually check the Stock results also. Thought I needed to put this here.
At this race, Pontiacs were #1 & #2 qualifiers. Kyle Riley was #1 @ 1.254 under, in his '77 Lemans. Bill Rink was #2 @ 1.228 under. Tim Gillespie's '68 GTO was #39 @ .936 under. Sal Biondo was #61 @ .602 under. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop And speaking of Sal Biondo, he got RU at the Pontiac Excitement Nats ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop The Biondo clan has quite a history in Pontiac class racing. |

Well ya'll, these eyes are just too tired to focus on any more DRC race files, tonite.
So, I'm gonna take a short Cajun music break, then get some sleep. Good Night, ![]() Last edited by oldskool; 01-03-2020 at 08:17 AM. |

Arnie Toftland's F/SA GTO. It's about a half hour from me and has been kept in as-raced condition. Check out the JR Headers decals...they were on a lot of winning Pontiacs.

OK, we were up thru 2006, lookin at race results for '71-'72 Birds, especially the Burton Birds. Also noting other Pontiacs at those same races.
No Burton cars at the 2007 Winter Nats. But I need to mention it anyhow. Bryan Phillips was #8 @ -1.148. Leo was #11 @ -1.132. John Schloe was #22 @ -1.006. Tibor Kadar was # 35 @ -.941. Also on the list were Chris Denton & Ryan Schloe. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop Tibor got RU ! https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop At the spring Vegas race, pretty much the whole Pontiac crew showed up, plus Brad Burton was #2 @ -1.374. Chris was #6 @ -1.278. John was #12 @ -1.240. Bryan was #15 @ -1.230. Leo was #25 @ -1.169. Tibor was #46 @ -.999. Ryan was #64 @ - .820. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop Had several class winners. Bryan beat Brad in E/SA. At the Route 66 Nats, Brad was #1 @ - 1.093. Scott was #5 @ -.961. Tim Gillespie was #22 @ -.856. Tibor was #37 @ -.767. Terry Nagel was #53 @ -.646. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop Only 3 Pontiacs made the Denver race. Scott was #2 @ -1.298. Brad was #4 @ -1.260. Larry was #41 @ -.909. The Burtons got their class win. No Burtons at Fontana. But Pontiac picked up positions 3,4,5 &6, on the Q-list. Bryan & John were both @ -1.142. Leo was @ -1.140, & Bill Edgeworth was @ -1.139. Tibor was #19 @ -1.016. Chris was #34 @ -.940. Lindy Lindholm was #51 @ -.806 in a '77 Grand Prix. Ryan was #64, & George Thompson was #77, in a '73 Bird. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop Tibor won the race ! ![]() https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop The Burtons made the fall Vegas race. Brad was #2 @ -1.421 Scott was #9 @ -1.284. Bryan was #10 @ -1.275. John was #11 @ -1.274. Chris was #13 @ -1.270. Leo was #28 @ -1.215. Tibor was #53 @ -1.093. Larry was #96. Ryan was #105. George was #118. It was a 128 car field. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop Brad beat Bryan for the E/SA win. Leo won F/SA. Tibor won his class. Chris got a single. And Scott left too soon ![]() https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop Leo & Tibor made it to the semifinal. So we could'a had an all-Pontiac final. But it didn't happen. They both lost. ![]() https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2007#indextop At Pomona, John was #2 @ -1.168. Leo was #12 @ -1.057. Tibor was #18 @ -1.049. Bryan was #20 @ -1.039. Lindy was #44 @ - .884. Ryan was #63. No winners. That wraps up 2007 out West. Several of these Pontiacs qualified @ more than a sec under, at every race they entered. Wish I had results from the div races, but I don't. DRC records for div races only go back as far as 2012. So, if any of you guys know of Pontiacs that won a div race before 2012, please post that info. Last edited by oldskool; 01-10-2020 at 12:40 AM. |

I know we haven't got up to '74 Birds yet. But, in the pic I posted of Bob Mulry's '74, in T/A trim, I couldn't, at first, detect the T/A fender vent.
Now I have a good pic, clearly showing the vent. I'm sure I'll use this pic again, when we get up to the '74 models. But, I wanna also post it here. From all I've read, this was an awesome car, setting the record in 3 classes & running more than 1.5 sec under, at several races. Last edited by oldskool; 01-04-2020 at 05:01 AM. |

OK, lets look at 2008.
The Burtons showed up at Phoenix. Chris Denton was #6 @ - 1.100. Scott was #10 @ - 1.050. Brad was #15 @ - 1.033. Leo was #20 @ - 1.010. Tibor was #42 @ -.854. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop Chris got a single in her class. Scott won his class. And Brad beat Leo, in his class final. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop At the spring Vegas race, Bill Edgeworth was #6 @ - 1.314. Brad was #10 @ - 1.284. Scott was #12 @ - 1.272. Bryan was #15 @ - 1.255. John was #17 @ - 1.227. Tibor was #25 @ - 1.150. Chris was #31 @ - 1.115. Lindy was #74 @ -.865. Larry was #76 @ -.847. Ryan was #83 @ -.726. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop Hey, if the 1.2 under rule had been in effect, several of these oldPontiacs would have had to slow it down a bit. Chris Denton, Bill Edgeworth & Bryan Phillips got their class win. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop At the Mile High Nats Brad was #2 @ - 1.435. Scott was #4 @ - 1.366. And they both easily picked up their class win. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop And, Brad got his 1st nat even win ! ![]() https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop The Burton's didn't make Fontana. Bryan was #9 @ - 1.002. John was #12 @ - 1.991. John Schiess was #14 @ -.982, in a '67 Pontiac. Never saw that name before. Leo was #19 @ -.954. Bil was #23 @ -.938. Tony Janes was #57. Ryan was #62. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop No Stock at the fall Vegas race, & the Burtons didn't go to Pomona. John was #3 @ - 1.205. Bryan was #11 @ - 1.080. Larry was #18 @ - 1.040. Leo was #24 @ - 1.018. Lindy was #43 @ -.836. Ryan was #52 @ -.700. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2008#indextop That does it for '08. The Burton's best qualifying was at their home track. Brad went 1.435 under & Scott went 1.366 under. I'd say those were 2 pretty strong 2nd gen Birds ! And, I assume that Brad thought his big win was pretty cool ! ![]() Last edited by oldskool; 01-03-2020 at 08:31 PM. |
