Randomly came across this thread.
Funny story on Dad running the bird. He won first round of eliminations, came back up for 2nd and they had marked the sheet wrong. They wouldn't let him back in because he wasn't listed as the winner. Other guy was already gone. Correct on being 2 and one being a street car. Car was butchered later in life, but hasn't been found, but plenty of people own it, as they keep trying to sell it to me. |

Update: I found the shop that I think the old bracket car used to rot behind. Also found the owner that sold her after Katrina.
The shop looks like it would have been mostly underwater following the hurricane. The owner says he'll try to dig up some old photos, but can't help with who he sold the car to. Post pics if anybody's got color pics of it following its trailer accident, nose removal, and repaint under Norm Pearah. Happy hunting.

Bumping an old thread. We just finished filming a Buddy Martin documentary at my place. During the week of filming, we confirmed that the "race bird" had the vinyl taken off the roof and painted per Ronnie's instructions. It was then promptly corrected by the higher ups to have it put back on. This was confirmed by the man that painted the car at that time.

Sweet find! So many questions:
Who painted the car, Red Gibson? Rumored that there was a Plymouth dealership Body shop that painted the SM cars and then they were lettered by Carl Clayton. Any pics of the car before or after paint? Before pics would be the HOLY GRAIL of Superchicken pics. Where can I see the documentary?

Watched the documentary. Great work!
I read somewhere in some obscure post in a random forum about a guy that used to work at a dealership where he used to wash/prep the S&M cars before and after paint. Kind of implied the cars were painted at the dealer's body shop. Would Red have worked there too?
