Thumbs up Re: 79 Malibu- Stocker-Stick Shift

Finally!
We have a running car...
Dad tried making a push to get it to a local track this weekend but as always with these builds final fitment on a few items pushed it out another week or two. We have a few items to tie up, wiring to clean up, make 20 passes up and down the driveway and then we will be at a track near you!

Curious what everyone thinks will be a good baseline for timing? I'm assuming this SBC will like a lot but 38 degrees seem like a good baseline?

Eventually I will tune a 2 degree retard into fourth gear but need to see how the grid reacts to a manual and if there is much an rpm drop to tell when it is changing gears.

Hey Guys!

Dad was able to get the car to the track last week. You will see 35 years of rust for my old man behind the driver seat and a lot of suspension bugs to work on.

The best pass he made was 13.42 @ 102mph. We have the rev limiter set at 6400(very conservative for gear swap misses), leaving at 5000, and set at 42 degrees of timing.
First thing on the list will be springs across the board. Fronts are cut springs but you can see now with the engine in place it sits to low.
Back we are not getting any kind of squatting with the Calvert shocks set on one of the lowest settings.

Overall happy with the start!
