Got the alternator bracket fabbed up and installed after 4 days and 5 attempts...just didn't like the look/stability of it.
1) Fan belt installed with a brand new in the box 60amp alternator I found upstairs in the garage I bought for another project. (forgot I had it, can't remember what I got it for, everything else is charging...hmmm)
2) Milled a new shifter gate (forward pattern) and installed that
3) Pulled the cracked header off and fabbed up a new flange, got that all welded up and reinstalled.
4) cut the collectors down to 18" Still not sure of the length required, maybe I'll paint a stripe down them and see where it burns off?
5) Fixed the too long bellhousing bolt, wrong hole (that's what she said)

Noticed a slight leak started from the 35 year old flex lines going to the tranny cooler, add that to the list.

Did my pre-op today for my second eye, surgery for that one is 25 Aug so it's not looking good to get back out this year. crap. Two years in a row I got out at the first of the season for one weekend and then due to life couldn't get a second weekend in. Still trying, we'll see.

More to do, picking away at it when I can.

Here's a pic of the alternator set up now. Once I have time I'll probably go back and replace the aluminum flat bar with a new prettier one with only one hole, this was a piece of scrap aluminum from the kids junior that's been gone for 6-7 years. (Why I never throw anything away, LOL!!)
Alternator is nice and low now, belts tight, charging great. Once I get to the track I'll find out if high rpm kicks the belt, lol.
