Anthony,

I just took a Star Machine set up of my Top Dragster. Worked fine but my new engine came with something else so i am selling this set up. It is the standard vacum pump from Star as well as the mandrel and the intake and exhaust tank with the #12 ends. Cost new $1100.00 will sell for $800.00. Havent advertised yet. Kind of pricey but they work well. Let me know.

Thanks.

A friend had one.....it pulled very little vacuum. He was told to add a little oil every day he raced it. It still never worked very well and after he pulled it apart he found it was worn inside pretty badly. This friend doesn't race very often these days so the pump had very little use. He sent it back to Aerospace and got no help from them. He bought a Moroso and it works fine. I had a Moroso 3 vane for 3 seasons on my injected dragster. Sold the engine and the pump with it and it went 2 more seasons and was still working fine. The 3 vane Moroso pumps had a reputation for breaking either the set screws or the shafts. I took my Moroso apart regularly looking at those items but never had a problem and the pump worked very well for me.

You won't believe have much cleaner your motor stays!
Plus he is local and does all the pumps for the top half of prostock.

I am looking to put one of theses vacuum pumps on my Nova, does anyone have any pictures of how they mounted the pump and overflow tank on theirs cars? Just looking for some ideas and mounting options.

A defective vane would have come apart during initial factory testing. We test all new pumps at approximately 200% of a typical drag race duty cycle application, its one of the reasons we do it. If a vacuum pump vane does break its almost always due to something getting into the pump, other than liquid or air, that does not belong in there. The most common culprit we find is a piece of valve spring material. The foreign object breaks the first vane then these broken pieces break the remaining vanes. Its a domino effect. All vacuum pumps are vulnerable to this situation.
An appropriate filter between the engine and the pump would completely eliminate this possibility. You use an oil filter and air cleaner to protect your engine, why not do the same for your vacuum pump? If a needle bearing from a broken rocker arm locks up your oil pump is it the oil pumps fault? Certainly not!
Remember, you don't get filet mignon for the price of chicken. And if everyone bought strictly on price we would all be driving Yugos, and they would still be in business.
