Default Reinfod, Nichols are “Super” at Super Circuit Shootout

Maple Grove Raceway July 9th & 10th, 2011 – The Mid Atlantic Super Gas Association completed race #5 & 6 at Maple Grove Raceway on July 9th & 10th. On Saturday 27 Cars competed for the top qualifying spot but, in the end it was multi-time MASGA Champion Iggie Boicesco claiming the honor with a 9.901. Following Boicesco were Derek Clark, Mike Lauria, Larry Edwards & Delaney Richardson.
As eliminations got underway it would be a local favorite claiming victory at night’s end. Scott Reinfod from Gilbertsville, Pa and “The Moose” 1963 Corvette would take down all challengers he faced on his way to victory. Reinfod started his day with a victory over Richardson, Earl Nichols Jr, Boicesco and in the semi-finals red-hot Shawn Harp’s 57 Bel-Air. Harp took the advantage at the tree but, ran under with a 9.894 to Reinfod’s winning 9.953.
On the other side of the ladder was #2 points man Pete Luciano and his 1968 Camaro. Luciano would take down Tom Rakowski, Edwards, Hank Smith and Darlene Staub’s 27 Roadster in the Semi’s. Staub was dead-late at the tree in the Semi’s and Luciano took that to his advantage with a 9.920 victory over Staub’s break-out 9.884.
In the finals Reinfod would claim victory before they reached the 60 foot marker as Luciano turned on the red-light by -.001. Reinfod seeing the victory in hand clicked it off to a 10.239.
On Sunday 24 Cars showed up to take a shot at becoming champion of the 2nd Annual Super Circuit Shootout. Tom Rakowski and his 70 Nova claimed the top spot with a 9.902. Following Rakowski was Kelli Barbato, Delaney Richardson, Vicki Beam & Points Leader Tom Goldman.
As the Sunday portion of Super Circuit Shootout got underway 2009 MASGA Champion Earl Nichols Jr. would be the lone wolf left standing after the smoke had cleared. Nichols and his 1978 Corvette would start off eliminations by taking down Hank Smith, George Smith, Larry Edwards and Goldman in the Semi’s. Trying to catch Goldman in the points standing this would be a crucial match-up for Nichols but, Earl was up to the task as he was .009 to Tom’s .021 and with that advantage forced Goldman under with a 9.899 to 9.934 victory.
Honey brook, Pa resident Vicki Beam and her 2000 Caviler would be Nichols opposition in the finals but, before the finals Beam had to take down Chase Fahnestock, Lance Kreiger, and with a birth to the final round on the line Joe Eckel. In that 3rd round match-up Eckel cut a stout .002 light to Vicki’s .023 but, on the top end gave it back to Beam as she ran a 9.917 to Eckel’s 9.950. With the victory Beam got the automatic bye-run to the final round in which she ran it out to a 9.905.
In the finals Nichols was set on kill as he cut an outstanding .004 light to Beam’s .022 and with no room for error Beam had minimal room to sneak in between the 9.901 Nichols would lay down and force Beam to break-out with a 9.890.
Tom Goldman will take a small point lead over Nichols and Luciano into Atco Raceway on August 13th & 14th. For more information please visit our webpage at www.midatlanticsupergas.com or www.facebook.com.
