Steve, we run a 402 BB in our car and we use a GM Performance Parts starter. We have had it in and out of the car a bunch of times and have never exerienced any problems with starter to block alignment or starter to flywheel alignment issues. Actually been pretty happy with it.

If you do actually have a 142 tooth flywheel I don't think there is a starter available. Normal Chevy tooth count is 153 or 168. If it is either of those would suggest looking at the one from robbmcperformance.com

Our car has a 168 tooth flywheel. I probably would crawl under the car and count the teeth to make sure. The number of teeth matters when it comes to selecting a starter.
