intake manifold
The rules say you can't touch it, no mods, but final say so is left to the discretion of the tech director.
As most of you are aware of, its easier to win the lottery jackpot than it is finding an unmolested 45 year old manifold, specifically in my case (D1ZX-9425-DA) and, the ones that do have them....well you can cast it out of solid gold and it would be cheaper than what they want to part with it for. With that being said, It seems like everybody is an expert at modifying and had to get in there an "notch" or cut away the center divider. What gives here? minor notching? cut it ? drill holes in it? or leave it as is? I know what the rule says, but what does the tech man say? How much luck would I have getting an "approved" aftermarket intake to fly as long as it is the same configuration |

Re: intake manifold
For the Bow Tie and MOPAR folks, he's talking about a BOSS 351 Holley 4bbl intake called a "Buddy Bar". It's a performance specialty part according to MustangTech.com and very hard to find.
Just say No to 4300... Dale |

Re: intake manifold
It should be NO problem to get a manifold accepted for your application. Just like the 502 crate motor gm performance manifold accepted for the 396 375 Chevrolet.

Re: intake manifold
Bill,
The Blue Thunder happens is an identical copy of the D1ZX-9425-DA intake. Will not be surprised if the guys at Blue Thunder purchased the original tooling from Ford like they did for many of their other offerings. Just submit it to NHRA for approval like many have done for other applications. |

Re: intake manifold
Bill,
Those are showing up all the time on E-bay. If not there, there's Perogi or other Mustang/Cougar resto sites. But yes, they're spendy.

Bill
See if you can get them to approve the ford Motorsport m-6049-A3 cylinder head, seeing how ford built it as the replacement head for the Boss 351 per the 1984 ford Motorsport catalog.
