1968 Get Together
Dover Drag Strip, Wingdale, New York

Super Stock Eliminator Final, August 25, 1968

Charlie Castaldo (Scarsdale, New York) in the SS/B Dart
vs.
John Macey (Bridgeport, Connecticut) in the SS/BA Barracuda

The 'Heads Up' Barracuda with a slight handicap, won by an 'eyelash',
with a 10.91 @ 128.00 to Charlie's 10.89 @ 129.00

A very interesting story about these 'two' gentleman, and their cars..

NK,

I'll post the information, but not the photo's.
1968 Super Stock Magazine Nationals were held at
New York National Speedway,,,,,,July 19 thru July 21.

The SS/B Class Winner on Friday was Sox & Martin, who
defeated Bob Gaudreau's Candy Cuda.

The S/S Eliminator on Sunday, was won by Dick Arons, who drove his
SS/F 67' SS396/325 HP Camaro 4-speed (convertible), defeating
Bill Stiles in his SS/BA 68' Hemi Barracuda.
(Actually, Bill Stiles beat Dick Arons in the Final, but ran under the index).

The Dick Arons 1967 Camaro was sponsored by Mid West Auto Parts,
had Cragar wheels,,,,,,Butternut Yellow paint and black convertible top.

mi Moose;283249]I came across this older post...is there anyone else here that can add anymore info or details on the Sox & Martin 68 Hemi Barracuda's that they raced in 68-69-70 or later...Here's a couple of photos of Eddie Smith's (West Virgina Hemi) 68 Hemi Barracuda that Sox & Martin sold to

I was at Cicle cCounty Md. when Sox & martin showed up to run a 2 out of 3 match race with who I can't remember. The car was drven by Carlton, and I think was acid dipped. It was the first Cuda that they had installed a full rollcage into. Talked to Buddy about bent quater pannels just infront of rear wheels up the rear window that had been repaired and in primer.I beleave the car needed the cage to support the dipped body, due to the fact that they did not have any ladder bars or 4 link at the time,. The rear springs would torq up in fromt and pull down at rear hanger, thus bend in rear pannels. That vehicle had only rear springs no bars.
Do you think that car could have been Don Carlton's car or just a dipped body to start with. I think it was a car built just to match race. But I'm sure they found out after a few passes that it needed some support body wise.
Very soon after that better rear suspension " ladder bars " started showing up on the Chry. racecars, because they could hook into the cage for support.

Sonny Ray in the "Collins & Jones" SS/AA Baracuda at Brainerd Optimist Drag Strip about 1980. Notice how low in the seat he's sitting. Sonny was a tall man.

Did all of these cars get the full S&M treatment or were they simply passed along?
The Billy "The Kid" Stepp car is currently owned by a friend and it has been in S&M colors for years. Look for it at the Barrett-Jackson auction in January. The first BS car is owned by my boss in Arizona and is currently painted black and was raced in Canada up until about 6 years ago. It is just a static display now.

Cool. Liteweight and I watched Renald race the black BS car up @ Mission BC @ their May Hemi shootouts . I think it ran a 9.0. Very well built car by Lee Brothers. Didn't know until now it was a Stepp car.
