Today I met the famous Tom Gould of Corvair fame.
Just got to Darlington after driving 8 hours.

He is one of the unsung heros of Stock Eliminator.

His car stil runs under the index with a stock cam.

What a beautiful car he has too.

We need to rediscover our roots and brag about a bit of our past..

Tom is in super shape..too..hope to be as fit as him when I hit 21 again

In 1975 Z/SA index was 17.36 and 25lb/hp 6 Cyl allowed. I could run high 16's with my 65 Valiant 170 cid. Still have the car and engine. Just waiting for NHRA to allow the combo back into Z/SA

Dan,

Appreciate the kind words. Actually, the cam is a Lunati "pure stock" grind. It's been in there every since I built the engine in 1976. I won the X/S class at the 1976 NHRA Summernationals set the NHRA X/ Stock record in 1977, and then the car pretty much sat until I retired in 1996. I ran IHRA Pure Stock in 1997-98 until they dropped the lower Pure Stock classes in 1999.

Hey Tom is is always a great experience to meet and talk to the old guard still racing.
Heard Bobby Warren was trying to race again.

There were 7 Pure Stockers at Darlington.
Technically you would have made it 8.
I loved every minute of your conversation and the historical documents you showed me.

Did very poorly losing both first rounds.
Need more seat time.
One of these days it will all come around.

Looking forward to meeting up with you again.
Stay thirsty!
