When the car originally brought the big money, I asked around to the guys I used to hang with back when I was restoring musclecars.

They pretty much agreed that the main factor was the rarity of the car to start with - an original numbers matching LS6 convertible with a clear history and full documentation. That the car was a terror in its day didn't hurt anything either.

I think the Chevy guys were immune to the craziness of the price since they'd watched Hemi cars (Cuda convertables and Daytonas) go for insane money previously. Hey, if there's million dollar Mopars there must be a Bowite worth that much, right?

Sometimes I wonder how guys with big money ever got it to start with.

Even with the rarity of a LS6 convertible, there was no doubt that the right car met the right buyer on the right day.

If I had been in the market, in my mind the orignal Jenkins Vega was a much more significant car. But, according to the "experts" it wasn't all that much since it wasn't built that way from the factory.

I watched the car race and remember when the model kit with the tow rig van and trailer came out. Back then, it was a big deal for us model builders. I still have the car.

Other than that, the thing I remember most about the real car, is you could've timed it with a sundial.

If you do the research the Ray Allen car did not sell for 1.2 mill, the guy never came up with the money, the next guy in line bought for under a mil, still a lot of money ..
