Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
JAZ PRODUCTS makes a safe-comfortable seat and I have them in four race cars. They are less expensive as most of the big name brands. Last year they were at the IMIS show, and they are a great group of car guys....the owner and his wife are both members of the 200 MPH Club at Bonneville.

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
Weigh them while you are at it! For example, 66 Olds A body plain bench, 74 lb; two buckets 92 lb; bench with center fold-down armrest, 96 lb. Therefore, I agree with the above posts that Oldsmobile seats are the most comfortable, especially the regular bench seat. lol. By the way, my seat back can't collapse since it is against the roll bar cross-bar.

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
Thanks guys. I'm just looking for something that is comfortable, light, safe and doesn't look like it belongs in a sprint car. So far, I'm liking the Jaz aluminum drag seats.

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
Jim,
Here are a few pictures of what I put in my stocker. I used the Kirkey 41 Series Pro Street Drag seat with the vinyl cover. The are very comfortable for me, but they are firm. It was fairly easy to install and I was able to position the seat exactly were I wanted it, something I could not do with the stock seat. As far as safety is concerned, there is no comparison to my stock seat. The Kirkey is far superior in everyway. As you can see I have only one race seat, weight was never a consideration for my car, I can move weight around easily even with stock seat. The weight difference was 15 pounds, that includes the brackets and hardware for the new seat. |

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
Think it would be okay if I used the stock seat to sit in and put the lightest weight race seat that I could find in the passenger seat?

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
Jim, The seats in the later model cars are nice. Much lighter than what you have now and still comfortable. I really like the seats in Don's firebird.

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
I'm not sure what's going on here but apparently at the PRI show Mr.Gracia told several people (not me personally) that they must use an OEM seat and a "Race Seat" was not allowed in Stock! In other words what I believe he is saying is you can use a Viper seat in a MoPar but not a Chevy. A Mustang seat in a Fairlane, but not a Camaro. No Kirkey or Sparco seats. Ken, have you been through tech with that seat? I am really confused now. Jim
SECTION 10A: STOCK CARS, INTERIOR:6, UPHOLSTERY (Page 9) Must have full factory-type upholstery for year/model claimed, including factory-type floor mats or carpet, door panels and headliner, and front and rear seats. Interior gutting prohibited. Driver’s seat tracks may be bolted down. Sun visors optional. Rear seat may be removed when roll bar is installed; area must be carpeted or upholstered equivalent to factory specifications (no bare paneling). Full-size aftermarket or corporate OEM front seats permitted; must be upholstered and supported. See General Regulations 6:2. . .

Re: Who makes a "comfortable" race seat
Jim, the rule reads exactly the same as super stock and I have not been to tech. I guess I will know what is legal or not when I go to my first race next year.
No place in the rules does it say you can not use a race seat. Also, the new CJ's come with Recaro race seats. |
