I dont know why these slower class combos interest me.
Check with Bill Sempsrott.I'm pretty sure he set a record with that combo.

I can go further under on the mountain with a stick 2 bbl than I can at sea level. The flywheel and RPM are the equalizer. At 164 hp its not 302 ford good but a good combination.

Best wishes on this project. Looks like a lot of fun.
Converted to a 12 bolt with help from Bich
I was told that some of cars with the high HP combo had two control arms? Watch the tire slow mo and you will see when he shifts to second.

[QUOTE=Greg Reimer 7376;713937]Alright, having been through several 409 powered cars, the logical questions come to mind: 1. What did you do about the rear suspension with the single upper trailing arm that liked to tear loose from the frame at the front?

So Greg ,i am replying only because i have intimate knowledge of those 409s.In 1964 I owned a black 64SS 409-425-4spd.-4:11 posi. I was 19yrs. old. So to address ea. issue from Greg which it sounds like he knows. But the rest of you might find interesting.1. All 64s had the 3 link.and a 10bolt.Including mine. Its what Jenkins used as a model to build some of his first prostocks. Designed to offset the engines rotational torque. 2 orig.10bolt. 65 was first 4link and 12bolt. And i saw no one ripping the trailing arm ,because ? we only had 7inch slicks.OMG leaving at about 4500 and slipping the clutch ,tires spinning -grab 2nd it 's still crabbing sideways untill you hit 3rd. A handfull on the street. Most awesome car i ever owned. See the actual car in my photo album.Raced it 1 time.13flat and one 12.95 i think. won my class but that was it. I was just learning and some kid was not going to beat the older guys. My payment was 62 a Mo.

Jim, they interest you and I because they're affordable to build and still have fun racing. You don't need a 150k COPO, Cobra Jet. or Drag Pak to have a nice stocker.

Rocky. Two things matter, not conventional wisdom.

1) NHRA hp factor
2) Paul Wong has a lot of altitude 2 bbl stocker runs under his belt. He knows

I don't know about that. Slight bog, no spin, typical rear coil spring twisted wheelie, I'd say that thing is "dialed in" ! LOVE IT!!
