He already has about as many pages as a U. S. Nationals thread, and I think he just scratched the surface. A for effort

Your thread..You can exclude whoever you want, but it doesn't say V8 in the heading ;-)
I've had two Sunbirds. "Buff Daddy" Carr won class at Indy in both of them. One had a N/A 1.8 Pontiac OHC 4 cylinder and the other had a turbocharger on the same motor. That turbo car could be evil to drive. It went 13.70s at over 100 MPH a million years ago in BF/SA.

Continuing now with '71-'72 Birds, especially looking at the '71-'72 Formy that Scott Burton drove, then later Brad Burton drove, I assume.

As of early 2005, Scott was still driving it. On the Phoenix Q-list he was #12 @ 1.010 under. John Schloe was #4 @ 1.110 under, in his '69 Bird. Larry Maxwell & Ryan Schloe were also on the list with their '71 Birds.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Scott went 4 rounds, but lost in the quarterfinals to the event winner.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

The early Vegas race was loaded with Pontiacs. Bob Mulry was on top @ 1.468 under. Scott was #3 @ 1.312 under. John Schloe was #18 @ 1.171 under. Bryan Philips was #23 @ 1.134 under. There were at least 4 more Pontiacs on the list. When an '80 or '81 Bird is listed, I don't know whether it has a 301 Pontiac engine, or a 305 Chevy engine.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

OK, at the Mile High Nats, Brad Burton is listed as the driver. He was #12 @ 1.183 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Brad also won his E/SA class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

At the fall Vegas race, Scott was driving. Bob Mulry was #1 @ 1.507 under. Bryan Phillips was #3 @ 1.363 under. Leo Glasbrenner was #7 @ 1.288 under. John Schloe was #12 @ 1.222 under. Scott was #14 @ 1.196 under. Don Elgin, Larry Maxwell & Ryan Schloe were also on the list. They may have had a small Pontiac party at that race. Anyhow, there were 3 '71-'72 Birds there.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Had 3 class winners: Byran Phillips, Bob Mulry, & Don Elgin.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2005#indextop

Brad was driving in '06 at Phoenix. He was #21 @ 1.042 under. There were some interesting Pontiacs at this race. First is a Chris Denton '80 P/SA Bird. Don't know what engine it had, since it could have had several, including a 301T. Who knows what this car had ? Then Tony DeFrank is listed, in a '67 Bird. Did I dream this, or did somebody say that is the car Randi Lyn has now ? Tibor Kadar is listed, in a '77 Bird. Who has info on the car, & the drivers' connection with Pontiacs ? Leo Glasbrenner is also on the list, with his '68 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

The Burton Bird is not on the list, for the Spring Vegas race. But I HAD to post it. It's loaded with Pontiac power. Bob Mulry was #1 @ 1.566 under. John Schloe was #4 @ 1.309 under. Bryan Phillips was #7 @ 1.284 under. Leo was #17 @ 1.194 under. Chris Denton was #27 @ 1.104 under. Tibor Kadar was #43 @ 1.031 under. Larry Maxwell was #54 @ .996 under. Tony DeFrank was #57 @ .950 under. Ryan Schloe was #65 @ .898 under. Bill Edgeworth was #68 @ .889 under. Tony Janes is also on the list in a '72 Lemans. Don't know if that's a misprint, & his name is really James, or not . ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

How 'bout this list of class winners ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Now guys, even if you don't like Pontiacs, you'll have to admit that this was an awesome display of Pontiac Stocker performance !

OK, both Brad & Scott were entered at Denver, Scott with a '71 Bird, & Brad with a '72 Bird. Scott was #3 @ 1.407 under. Brad was #10 @ 1.278 under. Tibor Kadar & Larry Maxwell were also entered.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott & Tibor won their class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott got RU at this race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Well, the Burtons didn't make the Fontana race. But most of the other Pontiac guys did. And they put on quite a show. Bob Mulry was, once again #1 on the list @ 1.342 under. Wonder how many #1's he got with that car ? Maybe he'll chime in with that info(I hope).

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Had 3 class winners. In the E/SA final, Bryan Phillips beat Leo Glasbrenner by aprx 3". Don't know exactly how they figure that. Computer I reckin. Or maybe math, if you were good enuff.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

And Kadar won the race !

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott made the fall Vegas race. He was #25 @ 1.125 under. Some Pontiacs finished ahead of him. Bryan Phillips was highest. Bill Edgeworth was there. His Bird was a record holder. Don't know what year or years. Anybody know ?

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Leo got to the semifinal, but lost a double breakout race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Scott made the final race at Pomona. He was #18 @ 1.084 under. Again, there were several Pontiacs higher on the Q-list. I noticed that here & at Vegas, Larry Maxwell had dropped down to H/SA. I assume he switched from the 455HO heads, to D-port heads.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Leo lost a double breakout final.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2006#indextop

Well, that wraps up the DRC file info from '06. I know this & similar posts are long, & many are not interested. But, the results of these races show the performance of Pontiac powered Stockers, during that time period. I couldn't be at any of those races. But I'm glad to be able to get a glimpse of what happened, from the records. So, anyone not interested can just not read 'em. But, for those who are, maybe they can get some enjoyment from them, as I have. And, putting a lot on one post saves a small amount of space, as compared to using many posts, with just a small amount of info on each. Hey, I hope somebody here is enjoying this look back into Pontiac Stocker history even half as much as I am.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2000#indextop

At the '01 Mile-High race, he was also listed with the '73. Also, Larry Maxwell is on the list with a '72 Bird. Anybody have the info on this car, such as previous owner, next owner, etc ? He ran E/SA. So he had the 455HO engine. Wonder if this might be the car Brad later had, and maybe Scott converted the car he'd been running over to a '70 RAIV ? That body style could work for a '70, '71, '72, or '73, with only minor changes.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2001#indextop

I know that in recent years Scott & Brad have been running some of the West coast races. So, I checked out the '01 Winter Nats. Scott was not on the list. But, Bill Rink was on top of the list @ 1.300 under. Larry Maxwell was on the lsit with his E/SA '72 Bird. Near the bottom was Michael Moyer, with a '78 Bird. Bryan Phillips & John Schloe were also on the list.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2001#indextop

While out in that area, decided to check out the Phoenix race. Bill Rink was on top of this one too, and even further under, @ 1.384. Neil Smedley was 1.129 under, with his 301T '81 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2001#indextop

Scott did not make the '02 Winter Nats. Only Pontiac on the list is Bob Mulry @ 1.049 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

Scott did make the Phoenix race. This time he is listed with a '72. Ran 1.008 under. Neil Smedley was there, and a guy named Richard Desmond is on the list, with a '74 GTO.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

Scott & Bob Mulry were at Denver. Bob went 1.130 under, with his K/SA '74 Formy, & Scott went 1.084 under with his '72 Bird. I assume it was a Formy also, since the only Stocker Birds I've known the Burtons to race are Formy models.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

Scott also won class at this race.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2002#indextop

In '03, Scott made the Phoenix race. Both he & John Schloe were 1.041 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

He made the 1st Vegas race that year. Slowed a little, to .941 under. Ahead of him, in Pontiacs, were Bob Mulry @ 1.115 under, Bryan Phillips @ 1.084 under, & John Schloe @ 1.065 under. Larry Maxwell was also on the list @ .714 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

At Denver, he was 1.151 under. Lee Bannister was on the list. He ran .741 under, with his H/SA '73 Formy.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

Scott was running F/SA at this race & won the class.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2003#indextop

Looks like they didn't run Stock at either Denver or the early Vegas Race, in '04. Don't know what the deal was there. Anyhow, Scott did make it to Fall Vegas race. Apparently, they had some real good air. Bob Mulry was #1 @ 1.544 under, Scott was #3 @ 1.312 under. He was listed with a '71 Bird, and moved up to D/SA. I assume that means that he had swapped in a 455HO engine. John Schloe was #7 @ 1.266 under. Don Elgin even went 1.060 under. Larry Maxwell is also on the list. And Shawn Kvaas, from Canada, is listed with a '77 Bird.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2004#indextop

So, if I understand what I've seen, Scott's Bird would run close to a sec under, with both a D-port & a round port 455. And, Brad had not started driving it, as of 2004.

Well, that's enuff for now. BREAK !
As I recall, that was the trip out west that I shouldn't have made. I picked up 8 HP on that junket.

To my knowledge, any time that you see an 80/81 Firebird listed it's going to be a 301T.
